How Would You Handle This Kind of Confinement?

Some years ago, we took a busload of our clients on a behind-the-scenes tour of the Louisiana State Penitentiary at Angola. One of the people we did NOT meet on the tour was Albert Woodfox. He was in solitary confinement. His story is remarkable. Woodfox spent 43 years in a tiny cell for 23 hours a day with minimal outside interaction, all for a crime he did not commit. He was released a few years ago and now has a best-selling book. I was particularly struck by how, despite his confinement, he focused on personal and spiritual growth, taught other inmates how to read, and survived and thrived.
